There was an article on the web about upgrading seats on an Jeep (not sure which model Jeep!), they had used front seats from a Mustang (year 1990 or something around there)....they apparently match up excatly to the bolt pattern.

I have the stock seats in my XJ and was looking for an alternative to getting some more comfortable seats. Does anybody know of other vehicles seats that fit into the XJ (4door) or can recommend a decent after-market seat vendor that's not going to break the bank.

Did the newer XJ's come with more comfortable seats? would they fit? I noticed a newer XJ the other day that had an adjustible head rest (I don't). Maybe even those seats may be better. Anyway, I'm starting to ramble on.....I'm 6' 4" and a better seat would be nice considering I'm on the road soooo much.

I would prefer getting a seat from another vehicle from a Junk yard and save a ton of money......I would prefer to spend the money of tires/rims/suspension....you know all the fun stuff!

Has anybody out there done this research.

I'd measure the the brackets for your seat and then look at other type of vehicles which have "nice" seats. See if the brackets at close to yours and if they can be modified to fit your Cherokee. I'm trying to find seats for my XJ. It is an '88 and the seats are flattened down abd I've just about scrubbed the pattern off them from cleaning. 15 years of dirt is hard to remove. I'd go with some XJ "Limited or "Briarwood" seats. These are WAY more comfortable and will definately bolt up. XJ's before 1997 seem to differ a bit from earlier models . Good luck.

I'm not sure about that article, but anything is possible. I helps my cousin put a set of chevy seats into a ford mustang. the bolt patern clearley didn't match up, so we did some fab workwith some sheets of steel.
We cut 6 1" wide by about 16'long stips of steel and what we did was just bolt those to the seat and then maked were the bolt patern to the floor needed to be the outside of the seats took two peices it was a bit lower than the inside of the seat. then we drilled and they bolted up perfect. it took about 2 hours mostly looking for the steel and the bolts for it. He still has them inthere.

then your good to go. My dad had this old van and we put seats from a caddy in the back of it. They were so nice.
