I'm in victorville, not too far west of you. Where do you like to go? Ever been down to truckhaven? It's about halfway down the west side of the salton sea. That has to be my favorite place. We go up to big bear now and then too. In fact, we'll be up there for the 4th of july weekend. I've been thinking about cruising out to Johnson Valley maybe sometime soon. Maybe not to run the hammers or anything, but I'd like to fool around at Cougar Buttes a little one of these days.

I work M-F 8-5, but I've been having short days lately. After I figure out why my new t-case is leaking (read: REBUILD) I'll see about cruising out to Johnson Valley mid-day and meeting you out there. It's basically the middle point between us.
Oh, and I've got to get you out to truckhaven! It's flex city! Tight, technical trails wind all through the hills, and for the time being it's mostly private property with no signs posted, so it's open wheeling - everywhere!

Sweet. I would really love to go 4 wheeling down there. By the way if you need any parts for the rebuild on your 231 i got extras. Mine just blew up on me. Good luck

Thanks, but no 231 here, I've got a '79 CJ7 with a Quadratrac-it's a full time 4wd case. I replaced my quadratrac with another identical unit that has a part time conversion in it. I think it just sat out too long with no fluid and the seals/gaskets dried out. I just need to find time to do it.

Dealing with a back injury right now, but give me about 6 months of recovery and I'm in. I'm out in the land of the dirt people, if you listen to KROQ at all you'll know what i'm talking about. There is a nice little trail just off the 15 by the exit for silverwood lake or wrightwood. I think they call it Cleghorn. Good for testing stuff out but it will only take you 2 or 3 hours with no major problems. Isn't Yucca Valley kinda close the the Stoddard Valley OHV area?

Yucca Valley - Stoddard Valley; ehhh, maybe an hour, hour and a half. I think cleghorn is still closed from the fires. I look everytime I go up the 15. Some friends are in the club that adopted that trail (the drifters), so I'll get word someday. Dirt people, was that about the reference to the "909"ers or something? I vaguely heard about that. Are you down in the Inland Empire? My family/friends are in Rancho Cucamonga. Good luck with the back recovery - one ailment I hope to never know. Keep in touch for some wheelin' trips. I know we'll be in Pismo for thanksgiving!

well now that azusa canyon ohv area opened back up this last weekend i know we'll be there about every weekend. its a little drive for ya. this past weekend was crazy. a land cruiser on 42's rolled trying to pull a truck from the mud. and lots and lots of people got stuck in the river. trucks on 44's were getting washed downstream.
its a fairly small area no trails just a canyon full of mud and rivers with a bunch of sand. but it can sure be fun!

I've been wanting to go up there, I haven't really done any mudding yet. Sounds like maybe I should wait till later in the summer though. I know I'll get stuck with my little 33's.

well my buddies k5 has 33's and he didnt get stuck once. when we see a jeep bigger than yours go into a hole and the water goes over his hood we know to go a different route. most of these retards got stuck because they stopped or went through too fast and so on. we did just fine. besides with over 200 trucks there this last weekend someone is gonna pull you out!

Yeah the only problem I have with Azusa is that the CHP LOVE to pass out tickets to people leaving there for any number of vehicle modifications. I am a BIG fan of law enforcement, so instead of giving them a reason to give me a ticket, I just stay away. Wouldn't mind going out there on a week day. They use to let you in for free during the week.

well first off we've never had an issue with chp. i know many many people who ride there and they havent been stopped yet. i have more than 90% of my tire sticking out and no probs.
as far as week days go. awhile back they started charging. no rangers there but they play the honor system. your suppose to drop money in an envelope with your info on it. if they should drop by and if you havent paid they will make you! though when i went in to rescue 3 guys who spent the night stuck out there. they didnt ask me anything.
as of right now azusa is closed during the week for repair. alot of damage was caused by the rains and there is still along way to go. i beleive they said the area raised almost 10ft with sediment due to run off from mountains. were just lucky they didnt raise the entrance fee, they had to rent alot of heavy equiptment to clear the area. it was so bad that trucks with 44's couldnt even enter the area.

Yeah it's been awile since i've been up there, maybe the Chipy's backed off. So is it open all the way to the "y" in the valley, or is there just the initial river crossing and a couple mud pits. Last time i was there, the mud smelled pretty bad. Hopefully that changed, lol.

if im right about what Y your speaking of then yes its well past that right now. ive seen it further but not until late summer. what sux is my favorite crawling areas got washed away. there was this 1 flat spot 1/2 way up the mountain with only 1 way up and one way down. only fully locked rigs with at least 35's could make it up there and not easily. well its gone now. i miss sitting up there in my jeep watching all the people try to make it up but not succeed.

Yeah I think I know the spot your talking about. Was it on the north side, close to the "y" area, past the bridge on the left. I used to watch guys try to climb it and end up travleing sideways down the hill above the water. Never had the balls to try it with my stock carb, i wouldn't of got too far. Give me a couple of months and I'll meet you up there.

Hey, don't try to push us out! It's not even central ca until you get north of santa barbara at least.......
I hear ya about truckhaven being too hot. Yikes! We were last there in early may and forget about summer starting in june.......
Maybe a desert night run wouldn't be so bad - I have a friend who used to do Glamis in the dead of summer! Just sleep all day and get up when the sun goes down.
I know I'm busy most weekends until mid-september, but my in-laws did want to make a run down san diego way sometime. Keep us posted on timing and where the good spots are and we'll set something up.

I have a real fun run that we do as a night run, get to stop at some awsome mud caves, do some hiking back into them which is pretty cool, and if you want you can stay in the hotel when your done!if you guys get time let me know, even if its not till you get a weekend off, although you dont need a whole weekend, cruise out friday after work, play most of the night, sleep a couple hours, and head home! do it often and would love to take a few new people out there, the wheeling isnt very tough but there are a few challenges off to the side is you really want to play hard.
