I bought this Jeep about 3.000 miles ago. I went to change the manual transmission fluid and found that the trans. fill hole and drain plug with some limited help from the Haynes manual. The fill hole plug is flush with the transmission with a square wrench hole (similar to the stock differential plug where you insert a 3/8" socket drive into the plug itself to remove). However, the hole in the transmission fill plug is smaller that a 3/8" socket drive and larger that a 1/4" drive. Is there a special wrench necessary to remove this? I'm stumped.

Also, what does SOA stand for in reference to lifts? I'm planning on a lift within a year, but have some mechanical issues to resolve first (oil everywhere, valve cover gasket is first step on that issue)

3. This site is great and I have answered many other questions just by browsing past posts. Thanks for your help and responses. Thanks for sharing your experiences.

may be wrong, but i believe SOA stands for Spring Over Axle, which is an easy way to get a good amount of lift, quite impossible if u have a TJ, but since u have an 89, its a YJ and you could do this. I have never done it, so i couldnt tell ya how to do it....as for the fill hole i thought it was a 3/8'' also

thanks. I checked the plug again and it is definetely not 3/8 or 1/4. The Haynes Manual is mute on the issue. If someone could check their Chilton or Shop manual and let me know if it says anything, that would be great. I might just have an odd plug.
