This may be a help to anyone with an older XJ. I just finished replacing my headliner in my '88. I also got to clean all the trim peices and agrab handles etc.; it looks tons better. Not a hard job but one that I'd been putting off since I got the JEEP in June of this year. If anyone needs info just drop me a line.

I haven't had a headliner in my Jeep for a while, I'm not really one for aesthetics. I wanna have it coated, maybe Herculiner or Durabak... since they're DIY and I can have it done to my needs. You know, come to think of it why not just use Dynamat on the ceiling? Yeah, I could do that...

Gotta figure out if'n I'm gonna weld-in or bolt-in a roll cage first though.

If I can't build it or get it for free, I don't usually get it. I took off the old material and glued on a grey flanalett bed sheet. 90"x52" was the sheet I think. Ok it is not the most amazing mod but it looks good and was cheap.

Non, that has got to be hands down the single oddest modification to any vehicle I have ever heard. You're one crazy ape to even think of that, LOL

A bed sheet? does it show the seams and everything?

Tell you what, I'll send you a pillow and you can rivet that to the ceiling too.

Every time I run into a problem I figure out the cheapest way to solve it. My girlfriend thinks that I 'm foolish for spending money on a hobby like this but hey what are you gonna do? After 7 years of me selling and driving JEEPs as personal vehicles and as demos she is starting to relent. Now even a greasy started motor in the spare room from a AMC360 doesn't shock her. I had a guy land at my house New Years Day looking for JEEP parts. If I had sold them and made money she wouldn't have minded but the guy was in a pinch so free it is..
In Canada everything cost, well, twice as much as is advertised in the 4x4 mags. A modification is big investment. A 1.5" budget lift is $219.95 plus 15% tax plus shipping( and install ). BIG bucks. The $15 Ispent on the sheet was alot!

Well, that was nice of you to throw a part to someone who really needs it. I can imagine that a dealership in Nova Scotia gets a lot of business especially for a well-rounded 4x4 model like the Cherokee.

The dealer I work for sells all Chrysler/Dodge and JEEP line. Also parts and service. We are the largest dealer for about a five hour drive. I sell parts privately from my home for JEEPs and whatever I get cheap (Cavalier, Sunbird and Ranger/S10 stuff mainly). I usually buy JEEPs for scrap and part them out for mechanical favors or other parts I need. I set up my "Empire" over a six or seven year period; now I sell/trade off a lot of stuff in a year. It started as a way to make money now it has become a hobby. I love when somebody challenges me to find a part used. Do what you love folks.

You sound just like my dad. He is such a packrat and traider of junk or he calls them opertunities that he has got all kinds of stuff. When it comes time for me to claim all there stuff I'm going to have to build a barn for it all.

I gotta hand it to Nonnie here, jogged my brain a little. I looked around for a vibration-damping/ insulation system for the ceiling... Well, I found a good one.

It's a vibration-damping material that also acts as a thermal barrier for insulation (Cascade VB-TS). The best of both worlds. Reduced noise AND insulation. It comes in sheets and is available from Parts Express. Awesome stuff, for the edges and areas that aren't covered by the damping mats, there are aerosol cans of this same material (only thinner, of course) that cover a reasonable area per-can.

Thanks for the kick to my brain Non...
