Signed up a while ago and haven't had time to get acquainted. First of all, I'm currently in Kings Bay, GA (Naval Sub Base) and haven't come across alot of knowledgable jeep owners. I've got a 79 cj5 that I purchased 8 months ago and have done a bit too it (mainly to keep it going as my daily driver) and can't wait to do more. Questions abound and I can't help but notice how tight the jeep community is. A few specs I suppose: rebuilt 304 with ~12k, Edelbrock Performer intake and carb (600, elec. choke), K&N 14 1/2 x 6 filter (i love the look of that huge hog), Optima red top, MSD 6 ignition, MSD hi-vib coil, Splitfire Triple Platinum plugs with Splitfire wires..the rest I believe is stock in the engine bay. 3'' body lift on 33x12.5's. A while ago (just prior to going on patrol) I had a headlight glitch and they simply stopped working. As I noticed with so many others, that wasn't all I fixed. Ended up completely rewiring headlight to taillight (Painless Wiring Kit), new dash, all new gauges (Auto Meter), brand new Edelbrock card, windshield frame, new Flaming River steering shaft, new front drive shaft...and a few other odds and ends that just "seemed to need replacing or upgrading". Done for now as I'm heading for the West coast and I can't wait for the trails out there. Finally, I don't suppose to know much about Jeeps (yet) but I can easily see how they become an obsession...consequently, after moving in with some ship mates, 6 months later one of them bought a 72 cj5..I guess it's the "Jeep Effect" in action
