I had dreams of my 17+ year rebuild starting this weekend. (I'll save you the suspense; It didn't happen.)

Those of you that have heard me rant about my project know it well: A rebuild that has a fiberglass tub bolted down, and ALL of the "messy" stuff is done. It's a project that just lost steam and interest.

I made this weekend a 3 day weekend. ALL under-hood electrical is DONE. Brakes are done. Accel 8mm plug wires: Crimped and installed. Spark plugs: gapped and torqued in. A few minor parts fabricated and installed. Cooling was, DONE.

It was one of those days that things were going together too well. Sure, I had to make 3 or 4 trips to the local auto zone, but that is always expected.

I was ready to hook up the battery, and it happened: A small leak from the fitting that the radiator drain screws into. Now, the radiator sits in the trunk of my car while I search for a good radiator shop.

Now, my weekends are focused on other things for a few weekends: Valentines Day, and then 2 weekends painting my GF's new house, helping her move, etc.

Are rebuilds that START when a Jeep is 10 years old supposed to take 18 years from start to finish?

I haven't heard you ranting (till now) but I know the feeling of wanting to get out there and work on the ol jeep. I hope you tried teflon tape or a pipe thread compound before you pulled the radiator back out. If it is the little drain plug that usually has a pet-cock screwed in to it that your talking about. I juess if you put a fiberglass body on it you have pretty much built your jeep from the ground up and Im sure that would take most of us a long time. I have about 6 or7 years into mine and I feel like I havent done anything cause its not the way I want it.

whoa, you're scaring me. Maybe I should go buy a brand new jeep and start rebuilding it before the bolts get all rusty. Then maybe I could get it done before you finish yours! ;)
This is coming from a guy who has been building a two car garage since May 2000. Oh well, at least 90% of the roof is done, and who really needs doors? Come to think of it, my garage is kind of like a Jeep. Sort of a roof, no doors, and never finished!
