The MTR's are one of the best offroad tires currently on the market. With 31's your 4 banger wont have any problems on the trail. You may notice a slight loss of power on the highway but it won't be much.

As for loss of power, I just installed an airaid intake. I can't believe the performance difference.

I too was disapointed in the performance loss from my lift and wheel size difference. The airaid will make it all better. ;)

I haven't noticed the difference in power. I just put the 31x10.5's on my TJ and haven't really noticed much of a difference. It might be the way I drive. Drive it like it is stolen, I always say. :D I will probably put an airaid system or a K&N FIPK on it. If anyone has something like that or the araid thing let me know how they work, I want one. TIA.

One thing to try to aid in air flow is to get rid of that "snorkle" on the front of the air box. It will eliminate the 90* bend the air has to make. All you have to do is give it a quarter turn and pull it off. Some guys I know get the air intake hose from a 4.0 and put a cone shaped filter on it for their 2.5's. It seems a bit more economical in my opinion that a k&n fipk. Also, I read somewhere that a flat k&n filter is just as efficiant as the fipk on the 2.5. To really maximize performance you'd need to get a high flow exhaust, chip and throttle body too. Then you'd be ready for the 3' tall 2 level wing like all the ricers :D  :P ....j/k

I was thinking of puting a intake on mine along with a throttle body spacer and exhaust system but wasnt sure how much of a defferance it would all make for the cost of it all. Does the intake make it alot louder not sure if I like that to much. Thanks, Matt

Thats a question I don't have a answer for. I wouldn't be able to hear it even if it did though. Combine the soft top, motor mounts vibrating everything and my system I don't hear a thing. I imagine it would be a little louder because there is no cover over the air filter. Kinda like flipping the lid for the air filter cover on a 2bbl chevy (that was the "cool" thing to do in my younger years) back in the day when all the street cars had V8's and loud exhaust that sounded good.

yeh, people always ask why i have the radio so loud, and i tell them its just so that i can hear it going down the road, if you have a soft top, noise shouldnt be an issue, you wont notice a thing.

Then intake made a noticable noise difference.

 It sound a little meaner

If you want to mod the simple k&n cone or get the ariaid intake, it probably makes no difference.

The ariaid comes with mounting brackets on the elbo and a splash guard.

I left the splash guard off on mine. Did I mention it sounds better?

As far as spacers, I have heard arguments that they can hurt more than help.

For newer vehicles intake manafolds are designed to tumble air already.
Pre-tumbling can offset new intake designs in a negetive way. (However I dont know if this applies to all jeeps.)

i put the k+n fipk kit in the rubi last night it is a little louder but only when i gas it really hard. it seems th have given it some hp. k+n says 9.1 hp. i think it was worth it so far.

The MTR is not made for mud, it stands for maximum traction/reinforced. It will be ok for alittle mud, although it cant compare to a swamper.
