I have a '84 CJ-7 and would like to replace the springs, shocks, bushings, etc. and then undercoat it. Where should I start? Does anyone have suggestions or hints?

well i would do the suspension before the undercoating....are you looking for a lift? stock? if you want a lift you can go with a kit that comeswith bushings and shocks and new springs...i replaced everything on my old cj5 and it ran me about 420 for the suspension, no lift. I got my 3" for about the same ( shipping included it was 428)/ so explore your options and do what is right for your tastes, and uses.

undercoating can be done at like zebart and stuff, its kinda like a bed line sprayed under your vehicle to help protect it from sand, salt used for ice and other stuff, its a good investment to help with rust......theres plenty of places that do undercoating...

P.S. If you do go w/ the undercoating MAKE SURE that the undercarage is clean of any oil etc. before you have it applied or it won't stick very well & or @ a later date when going through a car wash or mudding etc. it will flake off.

Just a thought,

I work as a contractor for the Navy in the corrosion control world. there is some stuff out there that can be used as undercoating and is available from the 4wd catalogue that is as close to a miracle coating as anything I have seen. It is POR-15. This stuff is best when used over rust. Although the above comments about oil and grease are still relevant(sp?) POR-15 coats rust and stops it dead. When I get to that point on my old 78 CJ5 I am going to put it on everything under there. Moisture makes it harder and it don't come off (even if you want it to) so it makes a great undercoating.

My 2 cents
