Hi everyone,

I'm looking for information on the heating system on my 1968 CJ5 :rolleye:.

The heating unit in my Jeep is similar to the ones put in CJ-3's with the push-button selector panel and diaphragm duct controls (they look like little spaceships). The blower fan works great, but when I push the buttons to change from Floor to Defrost, nothing happens. All the hoses and wires appear to be intact, but I have no way of being sure since I have never messed with this type of system before.

There is a picture of the unit in my Hayes manual, but they have no explanation of how it works :furious3: . I would like to learn how this system works so that I can begin troubleshooting the problems.

Any links or info would be greatly appreaciated! :elephant:

Well i don't know about yer controls , but that doesn't really matter anywho, because the stock heaters in them ole CJ's leave alot to be desired. But hold on ...all is not lost. Ya git a clean shop rag an lay it on yer right knee, thats yer tried n true 'Jeep Defroster'..... an try not ta breathe directly on tha windshield in 2 lane traffic. next look in something like J C whitney for a 12 volt plug in electric heater, providing yer cig lighter works.....but thats another project....if not wire her in direct like...I highly recommend usin an inline fuse on that wire.....but then again it's yourn party. Also this is a good time of year ta watch fer sales on warm weather gear. Gotta have Carharts if'n yer gona Jeep in Winter. Good Luck. Keep on Jeepin

Slap a V-8 in that bad boy. That'll give you more heat! :flamethro

a dj postal jeep has the best defroster in the world of early jeeps. It mounts from the dash to the floor in the center of the jeep.It is an under dash unit. It will kick but on the coldest day. I've put them in two customer jeeps with great results. All the controls are connected straight to the gates so it wont fail plus they are usually cheap and ready to use.
