Jeep Greenhorn

My name is Mike, I'm from South Point, Ohio, And I just bought a 92 XJ from my brother.
I love this Jeep! it needs some TLC but everything seems to work.
With the exception of the lip prints he got from a tree last T-Day, the body is perfect, and the drive train seems solid.
The front end pops, cracks and rocks back and forth like an old covered wagon, but I think I can fix that O.K.
Does anyone have any words of advice on what trouble spots to keep an eye out for, and what is just naturally a "Jeep Thing" and not to worry about?
I'm very excited about getting this vehicle and can't wait to get it dirty, so any response is welcome.
Thanks!

Welcome greenhorn!!!! This place is like Radio Shack, if you've got questions, we've got answers. They may not be the correct answers, just kidding. Start reading the xj archives and threads. Try to remember everything cause there will be a test in the morning! Enjoy your stay!

Well, the noises I hear are most likely the U-joints, mabey the ball joints too, I really haven't dove into it yet.
When I turn the wheels full lock in motion they pop and grind, and going over bumps and dips it bangs a little on the right side just inside the wheel housing.
The rocking back and forth and body roll are probably just the difference between my usual ride( 89 ranger supercab 4cyl. 5spd.) and the Jeep sitting almost a foot higher up than I'm used to.
I've never owned a 4X4 before so I imagine I'm going to have to learn to drive all over again to keep all the wheels on the ground.
My little ranger is getting tired 380K miles and counting, so I bought this jeep to pull the camper and boat with.
Matt ( the brother I bought the Jeep from) told me when I picked it up that there was a law that said I had to get mud on it at least 2X a month or I would get arrested for Jeep neglect! So I guess I had better learn to work the extra gear shift quick!

Hello out there, I have just bought my wife a Jeep that she has been on me about for years. I bought her a 2002 X My only mistake I can be sure of is that I got a 3 speed auto instead of the 4 speed. She has to have a automatic. But her is what I would like to know I have done a lot of shopping to try and make some performance and fuel inprovements. It seems like I am always pulling a trailer and the fuel mileage is a joke. I have been lokking at the air intake and exhaust before I go for a chip. I am looking for a little help on what is the best for the money. K&N, Airaid, or what also is the catback system any help. Thats it from here any help would be great. Art
Oh ya some how my e-mail is not what it should be and I have not found a way to fix it yet so here it is artanbea@hotmail.com
