i just bought a used set of front xj 3 inch lift skyjacker coils with both front lower control arms. i also have a set of stock xj front coils that i plan to install in the rear of my zj. i already have a 2 inch bb. i figure the 3 " xj coils will give about 2" + 2" bb, and hopefully the xj coils wont give more that 2-2.5" + bb in rear. so far i have 100$ invested, but still have to figure out the shock situation. i have before pics, will provide after pics.
Breaking it!

Not too sure if the stock front XJ coils will work in the rear of your ZJ. Front coils have a different spring rate than rears due to the heavier load from the engine and that the front of your vehicle tend to "impact" more bumps than the rear. On top of that, I believe that the front and rear springs have a different internal diameter .
Just by looking at this picture you can see the difference. This is the Old Man Emu system.
If it works, great, let the rest of us small budget guys know.

I've heard of using rear ZJ springs in the front of the XJ to achieve lift, but front XJ springs in the rear of the ZJ? Oh well, if it works, then kudos to you.

Hate to rain on your parade but I have feeling you're heading for trouble.
The XJ springs have a softer rate than the ZJ...A lot of XJ guys will run ZJ fronts in place of the XJ springs to give more height as they are a stiffer/taller spring.
By running in the direction it sounds you're going you may end up at the same height or possibly lower depending on the spring rate and the extra weight the ZJ carries compared to an XJ, even with the lifted XJ spring. The article you refer to is using the front springs out of another ZJ in the rear. Also I've heard that the control arms out of an XJ are different in length compared to those under the ZJ.
I'm all for saving money...but I've got a feeling this one is going to bite you in the ***

check this out. front springs are longer than rear springs. im going to use front xj springs on the rear of my zj. ive read that using the up country springs in the back, you can expect about 3 1/2 - 4 inches. that to me sounds like a stiff spring. the xj should offer less rate, and i plan to use my 2" bb. i expect (or hope) for about 4 " lift in rear. im gonna redrill holes for my trackbar, but i have to buy new shocks. its gonna be sweet. ill have before and after pics. its all on www.nagca.com check it out.
