Today I just was given an old air compressor. I want to mount it in the back of the ol' wrangler for airing back up after wheeling. It is not very powerful and I am not sure if it is going to be worth my while to buy all the accessories for it. does anyone know if the empty tanks that you can buy(they are like 7-10 gallons and about$40) the ones that you fill up, no motor, will inflate about 10lbs. into 4 35" bogger? it is a reasonable price if it will work. :USA:

I would check your country supplie stores and autopart places to see what they have. When I wheeled in the old blazer way back my dad had one of those air compressors that had two long tubes for air and the compressor went bad so I just took it off and used it to air back up. It had two tanks and I would divide up the air between the 4 tires. it never really got them all back up to full but it was enough to get me to a staition to air up the rest of the way.

I think the air tanks(no motor) work untill the air is equaled out between the tank and whatever you are filling.Like you want to put 10lbs in each tire to get them to say 30lbs, you would need 70lbs (or more) in the tank.So the last tire it would equal out to 30lbs in the tire and 30lbs in the tank. ;)

yes you are right with that. but in my post like I said it never got them all the way back up tell I got to a gas station. Just enough that I would die on the way back to a gas station. My dad made a double side chuck tube it's like the yellow air hose with chucks on each side it takes tow guys to do this. You hold it on one tire as the other guy does it on the back so all your tires are about the same. the tanks from that compressor held alot it was big so was the blazer so hauling it in the back wasn't a big deal.

O ya and one other thing some people might not go for this but I did it a few times. After your done wheeling and you might need a bit more air. most people already have a air tank on there rig and just don't know about it. I had two so It was ok to do.

A spare tire works great. I over inflated them well not over but to there max when I was done and felt/praid that I wasn't going to get a flat I used the air out of one if not both of the spairs at times.

If ya gots the monee, getcha a powertank. The capability is super, high pressure, but controllable. 95psi will lock yer ARB for you you can inflate all of your tires, your buddies tires and still have enough left over to charge up the neighborhood kids paintball guns so they can pelt your truck with them. I just don't have the money for one. I have seen on the web where someone parted one together using an old fire extinguisher and some fittings. In the end though it cost him just as much to make one as to buy a brand new one, only without the fancy bar or nice gauges.

Also available from Advanced Air Systems is the "PowerShot" which is basically a non-adjustable version of the 1-150 PSI adjustable PowerTank. It doesn't get all of the high-profile praise or attention that the Powertank line-up does, but it'll still fill tires and quickly too.

If you knew for sure that the only thing that you'd do with an air tank is simply reinflate your rig's tires after a run, the PowerShot is probably your best bet.

The only drawback to either of these systems is that you need to have them refilled by someone who carries CO2, like a welding supply shop or industrial machine supplier.

information on either of these is available at www.powertank.com
