I just bought a 1968 Wagoneer/Cherokee Chief? What's the difference? It is in rough condition, to start of with it painted woodland camo. The original and auxillary fuel gauge do not work and it has an apparent leak in the tank. Will pull tank to repair and replace sending unit, where can I find a sending unit? The engine is a 350 Buick w/ 4brl carb and HEI distibutor.( I know Dist. is not original, carb and intake are suspect) It was equipped with A/C, the compressor and condenser aregone as well as the front driveshaft. It has no bumpers(where to find?),the wiring is a jury-rigged rats net nightmare(wiring harnesses). The floor covering for front and rear passenger area is gone.( it's better right now consedering...) It leaks, rihgt front door seals, and sowher on the left side, water comes in at foot leve near firewall and kick panel.(where should I look for source?) How do I identify my axles? If VIN., trim and paint codes would help I can send them also. The object is first and fore most make this a daily driver( fuel system), then a good family vehicle, possibly a restoration project with my son/sons. This is my first attempt at anything JEEP.
Thanks for any help.

from what I know the Wagoneer is 4 door (well, 5 actually) and the Chief 2 (3) door and the Chief normally has the wider track axles. If I am worng, they will be someone correcting me, but I am pretty sure...

You need to check out
www.ifsja.org

See their forums at:
http://www.ifsja.org/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi

IFSJA is THE source for full-size Jeep info.
You probably have a closed 44 front, a 44 rear, maybe a FF...
The 350 Buick is a great engine.
(If you decide to replace it, I'd like some of the brackets from your engine:
a/c bracket, power steering pump bracket...)

There's a website out there with all sorts of info and parts for the Buick engines. Check here: http://www.taperformance.com/

also Google "Buick Performance"

HTH, good luck!!

There were no Cherokee Chiefs in 68, they didn't show till the late 70's.

I have a waggoner front bumper, it is aluminum. I also have a 66 jeep truck that i am problly going to part out. The trucks and the waggoneers have the same doors, dash, hood, front fenders grill axles etc. I am located in ashtabula Ohio. Let me know if you are interested in anything.

a friend of mine wants the brakes and the steering box (manual) but the rest of the truck is complete except for the grill. I wanted 300.00 But i will take $200.00 O.b.o. without those parts the truck does not have a title. I can post pics if required. It has 44's front and rear and a dana 20 t-case. If you don't want the motor (amc 327) I can pull it and lower the price by $75.00.
It has a brand new radiator and lots of spare parts.

I am getting rid of the truck because it doesn't have a title. I have a 71 gremlin and a 68 chevy truck to work on and I have my 93 xj to play with and my gf 94 xj. I don't have the time or extra cash to build. I work 40 hours a week and go to school to get my engineering degree. So thats why not because its a pile I just want someone to enjoy it or its parts.

The inner core support is in ok shape. There is a little bit of rot in the very bottom outside. I can take pictures or you can stop and look at it. Let me know.
