  • Dana 30?

I was just wondering the best way to identifiy a Dana 30. I am getting ready to order a locker and want to make sure that is a Dana 30 under my front. It should be and I am pretty sure it is but need to make sure.

what jeep are we talking about here? 79 CJ7...should be a dana 30. too old to be a dana 35 and too new to be a dana 25 or 27. all have a 10 bolt cover. along with the 35 and 44. does it have open knuckles? that should rule out dana 25 and 27. dana 25 were only used in willys wagons and trucks and early cjs and military Jeeps, the dana 27 was used in '66-'73 cjs, wagoneers, and Jeepster Commado, and least we forget the M38A1...

now your dana 30 will have a number of variations compared to other dana 30s...brakes, hubs, diff orientation, wheel bolt pattern, width, normal and reverse cut and diff case offset (pass side in early models, driver side in later models)

This will help a little. I agree, if its a 79 it should be a D30. However a D35 would not be in the front of anything.

Here is all the info you need to know. http://www.off-road.com/jeep/tech/axle/. Most likely its a Dana 30. All you need to know is the gear ratio, most were 3:54 in '79. Unless your installing a "lunch box" locker, than it doesn't matter because you will be using your existing carrier.
