I know a Cherokee box can be adapted to the CJ, in fact it works great and bolts to the stock manual steering bracket on the CJ. I used the XJ pitman arm for approx 3.5-4 in drop pitman.

I wore out my first box, which I got for free, then I picked up a replacement at a local yard for $60.

I got my conversion from a 85 or 86 CJ. Not sure of the difference in the 89 box you show, but you may have the same issue I had.

The coupling is the same size to accept the steering shaft, but it's a different size on the end that fits on the steering box. You'll need to get the coupler as well. I think 4WD sells those.

Thanks for the info guys . Good point about the input shaft size being different .

He stopped at scrap yard yesterday and was lucky to find the parts he needed from a tubless 83 CJ.
