I'm installing a amc 20 one piece axle shaft an new software. my old axle shaft had a sold piece of metal shim and a flimsey metal shim do these need to go back on the axle I have heard leave them and some say to put them back one? The instructions for the new amc 20 one piece axle kit doesn't mention shims. Any help or insight on this project would be helpful? Also I'm in newport news va anyone in this area willing to help me out? I'm fixin up a 83 cj 7..

    thanks

I got a Newport here in Rhode Island sorry it's the wrong New Port. as for the shims and retainers, I don't believe you need to put them back in but don't quote me on that. You are referring to the ones behind the backing plate, Right? Although what locks the one piece axles in C Clips inside?

      the shims...

      Georgia,

I used Moser axles and the shims weren't necessary. HOWEVER, I'd call up the manufacturer if they don't address this 'directly' in their instructions and ask about it.

      Welcome to the board, Georgia.
