  • cj-5 frame question

alrite, this may sound like a newb question, because it is. i bought my jeep a month or so ago, and the other day i took my first peak at the frame. while inspecting it, i noticed that it was boxed from end to end. i know that this is a good thing, but i dont know if this came like that stock on a 79', or if this was done by one of the previous 3 owners? thanks for the help

    box frame

yes this is correct, the only problem with a box frame is the holes for skid plate, shackle mount's,steering box. have nuts welded from the factory to bolt to and then rust out over time. you'll see when you do any work on it, lol. welcome to the board, someone will correct me if i'm wrong. there's alot of knoledge on this site.http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...4/DSC01702.jpg

1tuff is right on about the welded-in bolts, and another problem with these boxed frames is that they tend to collect dirt and crap, and are hard to clean out, which then causes the rust that helps the bolts, and eventually the frame itself, to rust out. So it's something you just have to stay on top of.

We had a good discussion of this a few weeks ago in this thread:

Maybe a little off topic, but here is a fix for the welded bolts breaking loose, if you can weld...
