  • Model 30 Front Axle Vent

The last step in rebuilding the Model 30 front axle u-joints etc on my 81 CJ7 was to clean the mud out of the differential vent hose. In the process, the hose fitting came out. The threads are shot, and can't find anything to match the threads on the differential. I can't find any pictures, so I don't even know if what I have is an original or just something the previous owner hammered in. What is this thing supossed to look like, what kind of threads, does it have a nut on the inside, and where can I get a replacement? Little part, same hassle!

run a npt tap in the hole and you can get a plumbing fitting to thread into that. just make sure no filings get in the diff.

use a thick grease instead of cutting oil to hold the filings

Stick a strong magnet on the axle housing to hold the shavings.
