  • What am I missing here?

Ok, so I finally hauled my Jeep up from my Dad's place and am trying to get it drivable again. The fuel pump was leaking, so I figured I'd just toss a new one in it while I was at it. It came out easy enough, but I can't for the life of me get it to go back in. I've tried the new one and the old one, and I just can't get the right angle. Any tips or tricks I can use to get that thing in there correctly?

Try bumping the starter to move the cam lobe around. As I remember from replacing a few the pump lever goes under the cam.

never replaced one on a 304 but ive done lots of them on other stuff. some new pumps have incredible spring pressures inside that make it hard to install them if the pump rod or lobe is all the way on the down stroke, you might have to bump the motor over a bit to get it in place, it can be a pain sometimes.

I bumped it three or four times and it went right in. Thanks guys!
