  • finding out year of an old 5

How do i figure out the year of a cj5, my uncle says it is either a 68 or a 67. But he is 100% sure it is the last of the kaiser jeeps. So does that mean anything. And also, it has no tail gate on it, was that some sort of option back then. It a beste top and beste soft doors. I dont think that is orginal.

Run the vin number, just remember it is from before the vin's were standardized. On rigs that old, you may need to look for a vin decoding website. There are several out there.

Old CJ5's did not have a tailgate.

Yup, did some research and the tailgate was an option.
Also 1970 was when AMC bought Jeep from Kaiser.

Ok now about the top. What kind of tops did they come with.

Optional tops were the Whitco soft top or one of the aftermarket steel hard tops.

All the info you'll ever need for this rig can be found on the website or the forums at www.earlycj5.com... including a VIN decoder, to be able to tell the approximate month and year of build.
