  • Opinions on front axle

im redoing my front dana 30 over the winter (axle joints, seals, wheel bearings, etc...) i was thinking of welding my spider gears for a cheap locker, i only lock in the hubs when i hit the trail, wondering if anyone did this and had/didn't have any luck with it, im thinkin it might not be a good idea since im turnin 38's but im plannin on an axle upgrade next winter so i only need a year out of it.

any opinion good or bad is appriciated, just want some input

Just ask yourself: What do I have to lose?
If you're planning to upgrade next year anyway, the worst thing that could happen is the Dana30 or the lockout hubs will let go and you'll be doing that upgrade a bit sooner than planned.

It will work fine as long as you unlock your hubs for daily driving.
Only down side is you will lose some turning radius with hubs locked in.
Also how well the spiders are welded. My have held up fine on 36''.

if i do it ill be using a pretty nice Miller 220 mig from where i work, theres a pretty good chance that im gonna do it, i only drive it a few days a week and its usually to the trails and back, Wannabe if yours held up on 36"s i think mine will be ok on 38"s, as long as i dont get carried away or forget to unlock the hubs
