  • 302 in 84 CJ 7. Will I need transmission adapt.?

    First time to post a question, I have a 84 CJ7 with a 258, (won,t hold more than 5 lbs of oil pressure) with a T-4 tranny, Will I need to buy tranny adapt., or will the 302 bolt up? Thanks for any help.

    A mustang T5 bellhousing should be all the adapter you need as far as the transmission goes. Clutch linkage and all that I do not know about.

    The T4 may not hold up behind V8 power.

      Here's a link for a bolt-in motor mount setup. Either Novak or Advance Adaptors has another weld-in mount kit.
      Are you going with an efi engine?

        Dont know yet on the EFI, appreciate the link. I'll let you know as soon as I figure it out.

          MORE also makes a bolt in kit- BUT it causes the whole tranny to be moved an inch forward, thereby causing the need for driveshaft work.
          The EFI wiring is difficult for rookies- like me- who just gave up and towed it to a professional.
          I read that you can safely move the MORE mounts back, but this may require custom firewall work with a RBFH.
          Have also read that a 302 will destroy a T4.
          I had a T176, so I just used an F150 bell.
