Is the "Nutter Bypass" an ignition modification?

Does anyone know if the Carter carb on an 81 CJ-7 is computer controlled?

    Thanks,

The eariest I've seen is on 82 California CJ's.

The "nutter" is both an ignition and carb modification.

What you probably need is a "TFI upgrade". or "HEI Upgrade". I'd go for the "TFI Upgrade". It's easier on a 82 CJ.

The only thing electric on the 81 is the choke.

In simpliest terms(Nutter), if your Jeep had a computer, Purple and Orange wire come off dizzy and head to computer....same color wires come off ignition module...clip all four and purple to purple, and orange to orange. Takes the computer out of the loop so you can "manually" tune the Carter. Results go from a ton better, a little better, or about the same....typically way better performance above 3000RPM...I am a simpleton so a simple answer. There are so many pictures if you just Google it and a million posts in this forum to include ones from my knuckhead self...The big issue is the timing needs to be redone right after.

          Thanks, that clears it up.
I'm glad I bought an 81 CJ-7, looks like I missed the computer & extra emmisions parts.
Albert Einstien said "simplify, simplify & then simplify" works for me.
