the rear of my frame is rusted and the crossmember.I have a new crossmember but is ok to
cap the frame tips where it is rusted? Does anyone have any pics? What should I paint the new crossmember with I want to do the whole frame but not until I get a glass body(1-2 years) thanks for any help

if your frame has a good bit of rust, i'd recommend replacing it with a YJ frame, expecially if you're going to do a glass body at the same time.

If it was my Jeep I would cut off the rusted part of the frame and rebuild the bad section of the frame, if the rest of the frame is solid like you say it is.

I would take out all of the rust you can to prevent it from rusting out again, or at least slow it down as much as possible. That's the way I would do it.

The tails on my frame were gone too. We just chopped them off, traced around the old ones and made new ones. Here's a picture.

when i fix frames, i leave the caps open, and actually cut matching frame holes in the new crossmembers, imho it allows a place to access your rear spring hangers. when the bolts break off, you can drill new holes and then nut and bolt them instead of the stupid welded in nut that AMC put in there. it also allows better drainage for water and mud out of the frame, i also shoot old oil in thru these holes to help keep the cj frame rustproofed
