How am I going to get the steering wheel off? A puller of some sort?

  • #2
A puller work sgreat if you have one handy. I used to gently hammer against the spokes from underneath to gt it off. But be careful and do not place your haed above the steering wheel or you might push the wheel right in your face and your nose might not like that

I use the hillbilly puller when I need to remove a steering wheel!
the column has to be in the vehicle to use this technic.
-Take off all the parts you need to take off to get to the main nut.
-Loosen the nut but don't take it off. Make sure the top of the nut is even with the top of the main shaft.
-Put your knees between the dash and the steering wheel to
        put pressure on the wheel.
-And take a hammer and slightly hit the main nut/shaft and the wheel will
        come right off.
**key points: 1.)don't use bfh! Don't act like a gorilla!
2.)Make sure the main nut is even with the top of the shaft so
you don't mess up you shaft threads or nut.
3.) Make sure you leave the nut on so when the steering wheel
comes off it does not knock your teeth out!

I think this is some of the best advice I've ever heard on anything mechanical.

Tried to help a buddy change his u-joints once...he got impatient and ruined his driveshaft with my sledgehammer in the time it took me to grab a c clamp.
