  • 258 fuel filter question

I went to change my filter yesterday and found my engine has a filter with two outlets.

I am assuming the second outlet goes to a fuel return line and the other to the carb.

The second line, can this be split off with a "Y" in the line?

I have been unsuccessful in finding this style filter.

I did replace my plugs and cap/rotor. Wow does it run better! My plugs were running a gap of about .020 and the rotor was a bit shorter than the new one...a bit overdue tune-up I think!

    Thanks!

Your are correct. One goes to the carb and the other back to the tank. Not really sure what you're asking about the "Y" thing.

That filter should be easy to find, just slip into Checker (Montana, right?) and ask for a filter for your 86 cj-7, it will be right.

The filter has a metered hole to alow just enough fuel to pass through to help prevent vaporlock, but not so much that fuel pressure drops. A Y-fitting would cause the latter.

Ok, cool. I have not seen a bypass like that before. Glad I asked! Thanks much!

I'll take the filter I got back to NAPA and tell them to get it right!
