  • 1985 CJ7 with Pics!

OK guys well im thinkin about sellin my 03 TJ and gettin this baby. Shes got a lot of potential. Im in my senior year of highschool and plan to use as my daily driver. The jeeps got 118K miles on its orig I6. owner says it has +5k reciepts from parts. New brakes, new carb, i dunno what else. Looks to be in great shape with hardly any rust. NO major rust, only surace if any. Hes askin 2500 for it. What do ya think? Too big of a project for me? The guy said it runs kinda rich but i havent had a chance to testdrive it yet. Also, i know a good bit about TJs but not too much on CJs. I know it has the stock AMC20 rear, and dana 30. but he put a 5spd in it. Am i in over my head? lemme kno! Here are some pics

    buy it

$2500? and you haven't bought it yet? From the looks of it, it looks to be worth around $4000, at least around here. I can tell you how to fix the rich problem and make this thing run like it never has before....take that carburator thats on it and toss it in the nearest lake....then get a 2 bbl. carb off of a 75 or thereabouts dodge 318 (not 360) and with a modification on the linkage it will bolt right on....let the wire harness that used to plug onto the fuel mixture thingy lay where it may....I have done this for a couple jeeps and the difference is amazing. Unless your controlled by crazy emission laws you will be ok....if not....you may have to retreive the other carb from the lake to get it smogged and then install the other. Good Luck.

First off....clean your camera lens! Second, pick it up! It looks in great shape (except for that sweet muffler repair job....I didn't know doctor pepper makes mufflers too!). Like was mentioned above, ditch the stock carb and throw a MC 2100 on there from a304 or a 70's or early 80's Ford 302. Another good upgrade is a TFI or HEI ignition set up. These 2 combined will eliminate ALOT of wires and vacuum hoses in the engine compartment. Go for it...you won't regret it!

thanks i am seriously considering it. Another reason im going to buy it is because the monthly payments are killing me on my new jeep.

and i already have a bike picked out. 2006 yamaha R6 baby!

If you enjoy working on your vehicle as a hobby, BUT IT. If you just need transportatio, stick with what you got. I'd buy it!
If you do buy it, it looks like the sway bar is on upside down.

You have bought it now..., right? New hardware, bushings, lift..., clean--I mean clean-clean. "After you have bought it," all you need to do is, like previously mentioned, replace the muffler...and replace those AMC20 bolts with hexhead bolts (the deadliest blow to your wallet by those pics).

The problem is, there is no project (except upgrades).

You have spent two and a half big ones for a CJ worth much more and all the work is done.

              ...

              Yeah...., upgrades

I would buy that in a heartbeat. However, I would not ditch the TJ as a DD and use this. Unless you like being late and missing a large amout of meetings. And having to come up with money at the last minute for repairs.

all this time i have been tossing those dr. pepper cans in the trash i could have been building mufflers...

go for it, but be careful with your wallet on 4wd.com...try to save for all the beers you'll be drinking in college

If you to buy it, take some of that extra cash and go for an efi upgrade.

So do you think im in over my head? Like i said this WILL be my daily driver forthe winter and a weekend driver in the summer. Im planning on just running hardtop/full door in winter and no top/no doors at all in the summer. i figure i can get about 16-17K for my 03 with all my mods and pay off the rest (about 8K) VS $2500 for this baby. Is it worth it? Once again, it will be my daily driver

I have been driving CJs as DDs since '93 and have NEVER broken down or been stranded. (knocking on wood) If you build them right they are just as good or better than this new ****. I say buy it.

Sure, it needs some work but hey, that's part of the fun...
