  • Carb question

I'm plagued with that infamous carter carb and Im looking to replace it. My question is which should I get. Im looking for better efficiency, not necessarily more power at the expense of more gas. I know pretty much anything is better than the stock carter but I wanted to see what you guys have on yours and what you think about it.

    Choices...

    80CJ5,

You're going to hear mostly two carburetor brands, Weber and Motorcraft. I seem to remember reading that Weber was having financial woes or something of that nature. Myrtle runs a Motorcraft and I have to say that her carburetor is one of the only things I've not had trouble with. If you plug in motorcraft on the search you'll see all sorts of carburetor stuff. Also, try this thread: http://www.4wd.com/kyoung_4wdforums/...ght=MOTORCRAFT

    And this guy: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...spagename=WDVW

Lost of EFI guys out there, too. Maybe a good time to consider that route. Lots of serious wheelers prefer injection.

im running a motorcraft. quick and painless, and well worth the job. I am however considering a howell kit for the next time the carb needs re done..

I put a 350cfm 2 barrel Holley on my 80 CJ-7. I gained about 2-3 mpg, as long as I don't floor it too often. Felt a MAJOR power difference!

I bought a motorcraft 2100 off that guy on Ebay. Great product, expensive, but well worth it. You can even choose your linkage. I have had good luck with it.
