  • 4.2L Block

I have an 87 Wrangler with the 4.2L and 5 speed manual transmission, the engine is blown and needs to be rebuilt. I have been given a 258 block in great condition from a 74 International Scout. Other than being thicker walled and much heavier all the overall dimensions are equal.

Does anybody know of any pitfalls I may hit if I use this block and rebuild it with all new internals and reuse items like the head etc from my Wrangler. Does anyone know if using a bare block from an older vehicle is smog legal in California.

Thanks for any and all input.

I may be wrong, but I don't think you can go older or backwards in years for smog purposes. I think you have to be the same year or newer. I'm not sure if that would apply to an engine block, but i would think it would. How's that for noncommital?
