  • CJ hard top

question from a friend of mine.

he has a YJ and is looking for a hard top.
now he can get a second hand CJ hard top.

    can this fit???

I do believe so. I've seen several people run CJ tops and doors on a YJ.

The only caveat to using the CJ top is that on a CJ top the window opens before the gate and on a YJ the gate has to be opened first. If you still have your stock spare tire mount it is a little tricky (not hard just tricky) to open the rear gate. A swing away carrier does away with that issue.

            CJ Hard Top

I currently run an early 80ish Hard top that fits like a glove with doors off a different 80ish CJ and the only drawback is the jeep body door jamb becomes the strike plate and ketch. I had to remove the factory nader bolt. The tang on the door slides across the paint and ketches on the inside edge of body. I have been unable to find the correct setup. Other than that it works great.

Yep just put my 95 YJ's hardtop on a buddy's 79 CJ7, fit like a glove. The door with fit as long as the top of the door directly above the handle is round, not square.
