  • u-joint rubbing on bolt

6 months ago I put a 4" lift on my 89 YJ. I have had no problems till lately my rear U-joint near pumpkin is somehow rubbing the bolts right there. After a week of trying to find what “ratteling” was I saw the marks left on the u-joint. I was told as long as I did not have a 13" driveshaft I would not need a SYE. Since mine was longer I did not install one could this be the problem? I’ll buy the beer for any help! Thanks.

Shim your axle so that the pinion is pointed up at the T case.
Should be about 6 degree shims

You should be ok with a transfercase drop and the shims. i'm running a 4 1/2 lift on my 93 with the shims and t-case drop (about 1") and am ok. However the SYE is the best way to go if you can afford it, hope to be gettig mine in the next couple weeks.
