How do I replace Fog lights with Driving lights????

My factory fog lights on my 2000 XJ are shot. They keep getting water in them. I was thinking about getting som Hella FF50 driving lights. I want to put them in the factory location. First, what are your thoughts on that?

Also, I was wondering if I could somehow use any part of the factory fog light wiring? I see that in the harness you need a power, ground, the switch, and you need to tie into the headlight system. I am not worried about the power and ground, but I want it to work with the factory fog light switch. Anyone have any thoughts?

    Funny you Should Post this..

I just replaced mine this week end. The stock units are 55watts each. I replaced the rusted piles of poop with some KC 2X6 fog lamps. They are 55watts. So I just clipped the old junk off and spliced the new ones in. I had to replace most of the wire in the pig tail. The conductor was black not copper in color. I also relocated them on top of the bumper. I was thinking besides the crappy design of the lamp, having the tire throw all the road debris and water on them was not good either. I will post up some picks when I get a chance.

    This is what I did.

Here are some Pics of what I did to replace my fog lights.

I believe that KC has a driving light version of this same light. It should not be that hard to mount them in the stock location. Let us know what you do and post up some pics.

They look good. Nice job! Yeah, I am going to try and mount them in the stock location. I think I am going to have to cut out the bumper trim to get it to fit. I will post some pics when I finally get to them.

If by bumper trim, you mean the air dam under the bumper, that can be removed with a few small bolts (and it doesn't help with offroading anyways). The bolts for the fog lights inside the bumper can be tricky to get to sometimes so have extensions and u-joint or flex joints as well as some patience on hand for the job. If you're wiring is cracking apart and black then you might want to upgrade it which isn't hard.
