Taking doors off, first time, pointers?

I'm finally ignoring the wife and taking the doors off for the weekend before it gets too cold, any pointer? I doubt they're just going to pop off with out some kind of issue, it's a 2000 TJ, and I know they;ve never been off

    Thanks

If they are full doors, watch out - the weight of them will catch most people by suprise. They will probably be a pain to remove. open and close the door as you are lifting (With your legs of course). Some PB Blaster or WD 40 will help get the doors off much easier. I recommend to lube the pins with your preferred grease, will make them operate much easier, and make them much easier to remove in the future.

    x 2 plus....

Also, if they are full doors...wind the window down so you can use the frame as a holding point as you set them down.

Should try to put them on down on an old carpet or something other than the concrete garage floor...don't want to chip the bottom paint.

They tend to be hard to remove if they haven't been off in a while...just keep working them back and forth while lifting upwards. They will come off.

And full doors are heavy little basterds........

OK, sounds good, I'll PB Blast'm tonight, and again tomorrow, and have a buddy help, I have an old moving blanket I'll put them on. I hope it doesn't turn into a huge hassle, I've heard of people using hammers, high lift jacks etc.

    It's not all that bad, but it can be a slight pain the first time. As stated above;

Spray with lube a few days before, each day,
    roll down the windows,
    fold in the mirror,
    take off the limiting strap,
take off nuts gently (no need to slip bad and wrench the paint)
while opening and closing the door (the farther you open and close the better)
lift up with one arm through the window, opening and closing while grasping the inside handle and one arm/hand holding the bottom of the door,
nudge up with your leg while opening and closing, and
    watch the hinge separate.

Don't even bother with putting the nuts back on, just through them in the glove box.

    grease
    wash
    rinse
    repeat

You all missed some crucial steps. For instance you didnt say "break the bolt nut off". How could you leave that step out.

Another thing that may seem basic...lift from directly below the hinge. If you try to lift from the middle of the door you are just putting more pressure at the hinge point making it harder to lift the door off (i.e. lift as straight up as possible).

I bought the wall mounted door hangers off of here before I did it and they work great although something similar could easily be fabbed up at home.

Well I figured I'd post a follow up, it was actually a breeze. I wen't out to PB the nuts, and figured I'd put a wrench on them first, and they came right off. It's amazing with all the time we spend out on the beach with it, nothing was corroded. I rocked the door back and forth a couple of times and it popped right out. I haven't actuall taken them off yet, really wasn't prepared with the blanket and all, but Friday after work I'll go for it

Thanks for the help and advice.

    Todd
