Had to look it up, but yeah, it looks much like the C&C I used to play with. Guy who owned it lived on it full time. Good lady-getter! He sailed it from Seattle to New Orleans, through the Canal. Said it was a blast.
We took it out on Pontchartrain one day...ship we were building was out for sea trials and we actually had a day off...so we blitzed this thing out of the marina. We got a few hundred yards out into the lake when he brought out a new spinnaker. This was my very first sail...had no clue what it was. He tossed that thing up, it filled with wind and off we went! Ticked off a motorboat we passed too... Best part was coming back after a load of rum and cokes...pulled the choke completely out...all the way out onto the deck...so he tossed it overboard and we sailed it (three sheets to wind ourselves) back into the marina, got lost, razed a three story yacht with a black tie party going, nearly got one (very hot) drunk lady to bail and come with us, found our berth, docked and carried on to Burbon street (off-season). I would love to get me a boat some day....

Congrat's on the new purchase. I shall call thee " Captain Ron" remember the movie?? It was a good one. I've only had one kind of bad experience with a boat. Well, actually, if the captain had stayed sober, we would not of sank. I was on a deep sea fishing cruise. This was a large craft, about 30 folks on board, all Navy. It had been arranged by "Special Services" kind of a group thing. Most of us worked in or near the same departments. Boat sank off the Coast of North Carolina, 25 miles north of where our vehicles were. We could see the coast, but it was going to be a long swim,,,, Prettiest thing I've ever seen, a Coast Guard Cutter, very white looking, with the red stripe, water gushing off the forward bow as it powered to our location, where we were floating. Sorry to go on so long,,,,, Enjoy your boat, time perhaps for some island hopping.... Don't know why, I get a chill when folks mention boats........

Well, I have a slight, but inconclusive update on this... thanks for the well-wishes, I've been a little preoccupied these past few days with my 83 year old mother. "We" just bought a new car. Traded her '02 Toyota RAV4 in on a new one, '10 RAV4.
Dealing with a parent in their 80's! ![]() OK, here's the scoop: the marine surveyor I contacted that lives right near where the boat is berthed responded "Columbia 28, oh you mean the Columbia 8.7 meter?" (which would match the hull numbers more or less) In which case, if this boat is solid, it's a $30k+ yacht. And bigger inside than many boats over 30 feet. ![]() So if this all comes together (at a cost of another $2k or so), I'll be in pretty good shape, teak interiors with plenty of living space (6' 1" headroom inside) and it can be sailed solo. U.S. Virgin Islands sounds like a good place to hang out. A pocket cruiser of this type has a low profile, but plenty of living space below deck, at a sacrifice to speed. This particular boat has the build of about a 33' boat, in a shorter hull. And if it doesn't check out... if the surveyor gives it a bad report, then I can walk away and get my money back. Is that ever cool or what? (For those of you now surfing ebay for boats... let me caution you to do your research before you click down... lots of these boats, other problems aside, are cramped, clunky or have construction issues. I had been doing a lot of digging previously, so I wasn't totally uninformed as to what I wanted and didn't want.)

All I can tell you is that I'm jealous. Need a deck hand. I sailes sunfish and HobieCats as a kid, can navigate, and don't get seasick. And then there is the bourbon thing.
